The Richmond Brass Band plays under the baton, or more often pencil, of Victoria (Vickie) van Uden as Musical Director. Vickie is a hugely accomplished brass musician and educator that is passionate about the unique sound of brass bands in the UK. Currently Head of Brass at the Richmond Music Trust and a founding member of trumpet ensemble ‘Bella Tromba‘, Vickie is an extremely talented conductor, educator and brings an ambitious creative vision to the band.

Vickie van Uden is highly regarded as one of London’s most creative performers and teachers. As a soloist and a chamber musician she is recognised in both the brass band and classical traditions. As an educator she presents masterclasses and workshops for the UK’s leading arts organisations.

Featured as a cornet soloist at the age of 11 in her local brass band, Vickie was invited to further her studies at the prestigious Chetham’s School of Music and the Junior Department of the Royal Northern College of Music. Vickie moved to London to study at Guildhall School of Music and Drama and later undertook postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music under the guidance of the late James Watson.

As a soloist Vickie has recorded two trumpet and piano CD’s, Poeme and Red, White and Blues. As part of a diverse performing career Vickie’s has made TV appearances with pop artists McFly and the Sugababes as well as being invited to perform on hit show, Britain’s Got Talent.

Vickie also consults with Trinity College London for the trumpet / cornet / flugelhorn examination syllabus.
