New faces in Richmond

New Musical Director

Richmond Brass Band is very pleased to announce that Ian Walshaw has joined as its new Musical Director.

I’m very much looking forward to working with Richmond Brass Band, who are a welcoming and hardworking group. I am excited to see what we can achieve musically in the coming time together.

Ian Walshaw

Ian studied conducting at The University of Hull and led the University of Hull Brass Band, achieving their highest placing at the UniBrass contest in 2013. He then conducted the University of Hull Wind Band, winning the Best Ensemble award. Ian currently conducts the British Airways Brass Band alongside Richmond. He was also a semi-finalist in the 2022 Brass Band Conductors’ Association Conducting Competition, and holds a DipABRSM (Distinction) in Music Direction (Military Band).

As a player, Ian has played with numerous bands, but has enjoyed Championship section experience with Lydbrook Band, Yorkshire Imperial Band and Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band. He currently plays for Staines Brass.

The band would like to thank all the conductors who applied for the MD position and went through the audition process.

New Players

Richmond Brass Band is also excited to welcome players who have joined recently including Emma, Zoe and Sally (cornets), Linda (horn) and Tim (trombone); the band is looking forward to a fun programme of events and concerts throughout 2024.
